Kharálampos Goyós (Χαράλαμπος Γωγιός) is a composer based in Athens, Greece. Born in 1977, he studied music theory with composers Philippos Tsalahouris and Dimitris Lionis. A graduate of the Department of Music Studies of the University of Athens, he is mainly active in the fields of opera and music theatre. His artistic practice examines the relevance of traditional operatic codes for contemporary music theatre as well as the viability of the former in the face of postmodern subjectivity, politics and thought. As a composer, conductor and musicologist he has collaborated with numerous important venues and institutions in Greece and abroad, such as the Greek National Opera, the Athens Epidaurus Festival, the Athens and Thessaloniki Concert Halls, the National Theatre of Greece, the Onassis Stegi, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, the Neuköllner Oper et al. His music has won awards in Greece, Cyprus, the UK and the Czech Republic. He is a co-founder and co-director of the independent Athens music theatre company The Beggars' Operas. He previously taught at the Opera Studio of the Municipal and Regional Theatre of Patras and currently teaches at the Athens Conservatoire and the Drama School of the National Theatre of Greece.
